It is a day for happiness and a great achievement for all the people of India because India bangs a milestone in the battle against Covid-19. India crossed the 100 crore mark of the vaccine in the previous day. It takes 9 months to deliver that milestone. With this milestone, India became the second country to reach the landmark of 100 crore vaccines after China which has administered more than 200 crore doses.
On Thursday Pm Narendra Modi congratulated the whole country, especially the doctors and nurses. He addresses the nation that the major reason for the success of the COVID- 19 campaign was the trust of the people, that they developed during the days of taking vaccines and the process they followed in those times when various efforts were created to mistrust and panic.
In early 2020, when Covid-19 was at its top across the world, it was not even possible for the people to survive in that situation. The Health ministry then cleared that it will fight only with the help of vaccines and Janta curfew. The ministry then constituted several groups and started preparing a road map from April 2020.
After the road map got ready, the Indian government partnered themselves with the vaccine-making companies right from that day and gave them support such as institutional assistance, funding, scientific research, as well as accelerated regulatory processes. The company that first moved forward was the Serum Institute. This company is headed by Dr. Cyrus S Poonawalla. Then many other companies started preparing vaccines such as Bharat Biotech, Panacea Biotec, Indian Immunologicals.
They started making vaccines such as the ZyKOV-D, Covishield, Covexin, Sputnik V. They were all made from the tag ‘MADE IN INDIA’.
PM Modi started a campaign known as the Jan Bhagidari for the people to take vaccines on their own. But there comes the situation when the vaccine and the company owners doubt their capabilities. Some people revealed that the vaccine is not good, it did not get a supplement in the body. Some people said it will take 4 years. Some people explained that it will cause other diseases. The credit goes to the health workers who vaccinated themselves and appealed to the people to come forward and take the vaccine. Then this scheme got accelerated rapidly.
The company started giving vaccines to people according to their age gaps. It was decided that from March 1 the people whose age is above 60 years will get waxing first. From April 1 it was clear that people aged above 45 to 59 will get vaccines. From May 1 all persons above 18 years of age were made eligible for COVID-19 vaccination.
Now India is supplying vaccines to more than 6 countries. The vaccine manufacturing companies are scaling up to meet the demands of such a large populated country. This has been a remarkable effort in the history of independent India.
