On Engineer’s Day, observed on September 15, Akshay Kumar paid tribute to Jaswant Gill and expressed his pride in portraying this character. Jaswant Singh Gill is a lesser-known Indian hero who deserves recognition in our history books. Serving as the Additional Chief Mining Engineer of Coal India Limited (CIL), Gill led a rescue operation on November 13, 1989, saving 64 lives trapped in a coal mine in Raniganj, West Bengal.
The courageous portrayal of Jaswant Singh Gill by Akshay Kumar played a pivotal role in the successful rescue of miners trapped in a flooded coal mine in Raniganj in November 1989. This operation is documented as the world’s largest and most successful rescue mission against all odds.
